Aga Khan School, Sidhpur introduces Plan-Do-Review approach
The Aga Khan School (AKS), Sidhpur organised a workshop of experiential learning on 16 September 2023 to introduce parents of Grade 1 and 2 students to the 鈥淧lan-Do-Review" (PDR) approach, which it is implementing in the school.
The PDR approach is a play-based approach that is part of the Shishu Pahel Paddhati庐 methodology, or child-initiated learning developed by the Aga Khan Education Service, India. It aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and encourages children to plan their own activities, implement them and reflect on their experiences.鈥疶he approach is particularly significant for preschool and primary students as it promotes鈥痵elf-directed learning鈥痑nd鈥痗ritical thinking. It encourages children to take responsibility for their own learning and boost their confidence and motivation.鈥疉dditionally, it supports students in developing their problem-solving skills as they plan activities, overcome challenges during the implementation phase and contemplate what they could do better.
During the parents鈥 session, Principal Mr Chandan Sharma extended a warm welcome to the attendees and provided an insightful introduction to the PDR approach. Following that, Head of the Primary School Section Ms Jainal Mewada delivered a comprehensive presentation on the essence and importance of the approach.
The highlight of the event was the hands-on experience provided to parents to explore the PDR approach through eight learning centres, such as technology, science, art, mathematics, block, drama, writing and reading. Parents actively engaged in various activities in these centres, gaining insights into their practical applications at the primary stage. The arts and crafts activities aimed to develop fine motor skills, whereas in the drama centre, parents enacted road safety rules. In the science and mathematics centre, parents played an interactive game identifying body parts and sequencing numbers. Lastly, the reading and writing centre focused on expressing emotions.
鈥淭he event was full of insights into how robust PDR is in engaging young kids and helping them reinforce concepts,鈥 said Ms Falak Mogal, mother of Rizan Mogal from Grade 1. 鈥淚t provided an all-round development to the students.鈥 The 鈥淧lan-Do-Review" session not only provided parents with insights into the school鈥檚 teaching methods but also reinforced the importance of collaboration between parents and teachers in nurturing young minds.
鈥淎s principal, witnessing the synergy between parents and primary students during our Plan-Do-Review session fills me with pride,鈥 Mr Sharma said. 鈥淭ogether, we cultivate a culture of growth, fostering collaboration and empowerment. Such engagements are the cornerstone of our fruitful educational journey."
