During the conference, which was titled “Education in the Transformative Era”, more than 80 participants from AKHSS, Karachi and AKHSS, Kharadhar engaged in a series of lectures led by educational experts and policymakers. This included CEO of the Aga Khan University Examination Board Dr Shehzad Jeeva, Director of the Teachers’ Development Centre Mr Abbas Husain, Founder and CEO of Learning Minds Mr Adnan Mobin, Associate Professor at the Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development Dr Sajid Ali, and Manager, Teacher Training Mr Ali Bijani.   

The speakers discussed various topics pertinent to higher secondary education, such as ways to make schools more student-centred, enhance teachers’ skills in designing, implementing and monitoring localised and contextualised pedagogies, identify professional development needs from classroom observations, and share best practices in the field of education transformation. 

“The teachers’ conference was the spotlight towards my professional capacity building and growth,” said Accounting Teacher Erum Jabeen from AKHSS, Karachi. “The first speaker helped me understand how to live during a time when teaching-learning is taxing. The second speaker facilitated me to think out of the box to develop empathetic behaviour towards my critically-conscious learners. The third speaker enlightened my under-explored role in the field of education and development by sharing his success story. The last couple of speakers truly helped me focus on the practical concept of sustainability and the development of myself, society, nation and this ever-changing world." 

This conference is one of the professional development opportunities provided by the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan to support its teachers, school leaders and academic coordinators in refreshing their knowledge and sharing best practices with each other and experts.
